Volunteering for Womencare Shelter
Our volunteers are the very heart of our organization. Womencare Shelter volunteers are empowered and encouraged to grow, give, and help to end domestic violence.
There are countless volunteer opportunities with Womencare Shelter available to choose from. Some of these areas include; event volunteer, answering the help line, providing advocacy based counseling to residents and former residents, co-facilitating support groups and art groups, or helping with facility duties.
Those that wish to volunteer at the shelter or work directly with residents attend an initial 20 hour training course for domestic violence victim's advocacy before hand. Please check our upcoming events page for updates on our next training session. Please get your application in as soon as possible; slots fill up fast.
We are committed to supportive relationships with our volunteers, including:
- Assuring a placement that fits a volunteer's skills, interests, and expectations.
- Offering appropriate training.
- Providing support and supervision.
- Periodically evaluating goals and placement.
- Offering continued education for volunteers.
- Providing a positive environment for volunteers, staff, and those using our services.
